MINI JCW Team Ready For Daytona – P3 On The Grid

MINI JCW Team Ready For Daytona - 2017 IMSA Series

With four practice sessions and qualifying complete at the Daytona International Speedway, the only team racing under the MINI label again is ready to take on their second full season of Street Tuner competition. Ready for Daytona, and what’s technically their third season of IMSA racing, the MINI JCW Team returns with three entries ready to compete in 2017.

Mat Pombo and Derek Jones return this year in the #73 MINI John Cooper Works.  James Vance, returns this year after a shortened season in the #52. He joins Mike LaMarra in the #37 JCW for the season. Mark Pombo and Nate Norenberg will pilot the #52 MINI JCW this weekend at Daytona.

Daytona Practice Results

With a longer than standard event at Daytona (4 hour race time) teams were allotted 4 practice sessions to gear up for the first race of 2017.  Mat Pombo scored the fastest lap time for the Street Tuner Class in the first session of the day, showing a strong start for the JCW Team. Nate Norenberg completed the first session just a few positions back in 5th, and the #37 had the 11th fastest time.

Continuing through three additional sessions, the three MINI entries bounced around the leaderboard. No doubt, they spent the day making adjustments to find the best setup for the track conditions.

Session 1 2 3 4
37  11th  15th  11th  6th
52  5th  7th  7th  11th
73  1st 4th 5th 7th

Qualifying for the Daytona race proved strong for this year’s MINI contingency. All three cars will begin the 4 hour event in the top half of the 20 car field, regardless of a mishap with the bonnet of the #73

Starting third in the second row, Derek Jones qualified the #73 in the top spot for the JCW Team. Nate Norenberg brought the #52 around for a 6th place start. The #37 piloted by Mike LaMarra will begin in 9th place.
