Dakar 2017 – Stage 4 – MINI’s First Podium

MINI's First 2017 Dakar Podium

Another successful rally day, as Stage 4 of the 2017 Dakar Rally brought more great results for MINI competitors. The first of six straight days at high altitude brought a series of sandy dunes as an added challenge.

Mikko Hirvonen brought his #303 MINI John Cooper Works Rally into the finish at Tupiza, Bolivia in 2nd place. The highest finish this Dakar for a MINI team. The fast run puts Hirvonen and co-driver Michel Périn in third place overall, just five minutes behind the event leader.

MINI teams now sit six cars in the top 11 positions overall. Notably, Jakub Przygonski in a previous generation MINI All4, completed stage 4 just 24 minutes behind the lead in 7th place. “It was a good stage for us but the beginning with the high altitude on the sand dunes at 4,000 metres was really hard.” said Przygonski

Unfortunately, X-raid Team’s Yazeed Al Rajhi (KSA) was forced to withdraw today after severe altitude sickness made it impossible for him and co-driver Timo Gottschalk (GER) to continue in the #306 MINI John Cooper Works Rally.
