Stage 1 - Dakar 2017 MINI Cooper

The 39th running of the Dakar Rally is officially underway from Paraguay. This year’s MINI contingency began Stage 1 of the 2 week event with mixed results.

All eight MINI teams who began the first stage of the rally completed the event, moving on to stage two ready to take in the next challenge. The new MINI John Cooper Works Rally driven by Yazeed Al-Rajhi completed the route in 7th place, toping out MINI results for the 77 entry field in the car class.

Mixed MINI Start - Stage 1 Dakar

“At this stage all is ok. We try to do our best and not make any mistakes. The stage was very rough, not easy, difficult and hard for the car also. But we finish with no problem.” said Al-Rajhi

The first stage included a total of 454km traveled, however only a short 39km of the segment was included in the day’s timing. The short segment resulted in very close times for all the MINI competitors. Less than 4 minutes separated the 7th place MINI JCW Rally from Stephan Schott who finished 31st in his MINI All4.
