MINI Makes A List! – We Don’t Know How To Feel

MINI Cooper pulled over by police.

When you get selected to represent the top of a list, generally it’s either a good thing, or a bad thing.

  • Most fun to drive
  • List of reliable cars
  • Best/Worst performance

What ever the list, you usually have an understanding of where you stand among others on that list. You’ve either performed well, you’re sitting at the bottom, or someplace in between. So when the MINI Cooper S made the top of this list, we had to question if it was a good thing or bad. The list? Insurance.com and YourMechanic.com‘s 2016 Most Ticketed Subcompact.

Based on more than 323,000 insurance quotes; 26.7% MINI Cooper S (not broken down by sub-model; Hardtop, Clubman, Countryman, etc.) owners received tickets for speeding or other moving violations from January 1, 2014, to February 1, 2016. Non-S owners received fewer tickets with 19% of those looking for a new policy having been ticketed.

So… the questions of the hour are: Do MINI drivers drive faster? Do MINIs drive more recklessly? Are we just having more fun? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!

In my wife’s case, she has an augmented right foot so she can’t help but drive faster than the average ……..

I believe I drive safer now that I own a Mini. The handling and control is much greater than any car I have ever had. More specifically, when I was run off the road and found myself seconds from driving into a fire hydrant, with one small adjustment I passed right by it. Only realizing later I had just driven between the fire hydrant and a metal pole!! I do admit they are fun to drive fast in and I do on occasion. I think in time the averages will come down.

The only ticket I have ever won was a few weeks after buying my R57. I was definitely having more fun. Right up until that nice officer stopped me!
