The Escape: BMW Films Are Back

Clive Owen as The Driver

If you’ve been even the slightest fan of automobiles for a while, you may have seen one or a few of the 8 BMW Films shorts featuring Clive Owen that were produced in 2001 and 2002. An epic series featuring various BMW models, Owen as The Driver, and various actors as the charters he was transporting.

The films were directed and starred in by numerous celebrities, and were a hit for fans of cars in general. After 15 years, BMW Films is back, and they’ve released a teaser for the upcoming fist episode called The Escape. Owen is back as the driver, and alongside him co-stars include Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga.

fullsizerender-2Given MINI’s current target market of a more upscale and sophisticated market, we don’t expect to see any MINIs mixed into future episodes, but it sure would be fun to see one possibly being chased by selection of black performance vehicles, full of action and anticipation. Throw a helicopter into the scene, and now well wait a second… I guess we are back at The Italian Job.

Regardless of MINI involvement, we are excited to hear that BMW will be producing great movies again, and look forward to the online release of The Escape on October 23. In the meantime, it’s time to break out the original series DVD to catch back up with a motoring favorite. If you don’t have one, a couple of copies can be found on Amazon or Ebay, but we suspect they get more costly as the series is revived.
