UPDATE: The special edition MINI JCW Challenge is in production, and can still be ordered by UK dealerships.
The long anticipated and teased MINI John Cooper Works Challenge edition has been announced, and frankly, it leaves a bit to be desired. While many are excited about its upgraded suspension, brakes and limited slip differential, the fact is,the very limited production, only for sale in UK edition lacks features, options and availability that would make it a true track ready variant worth getting excited over.
Designed by a small team at MINI Plant Oxford, along with suppliers for the MINI Challenge UK Race Series, the 100 run exclusive JCW will be available as a fixed specification. In other words, buyers will not have any option choices, they’ll get exactly what was design team. While this does make for a unique special edition, it takes the “customize your own” ability that the MINI community has come to love, and turns it into just another car you pick up at the dealership. If you’re fast enough. Along with complete back seat, a pair of relatively flat appearing front seats, no added body support, and the same engine performance as a standard MINI John Cooper Works, at a £8,950 ($12695US) surcharge, this is a special edition that we expect to see locked up in garages awaiting show days, unlike former GP models that many owners put to track use.
So what exactly do you get for almost $13,000 on top of the base John Cooper Works model? Head over to page 2 for the details.
