According to the Morning Journal; Lisbon, OH and Orrville, OH will be two recommended stops for participants of the 2016 MINI Takes The States journey from Atlanta, Georgia to Palm Springs, California.
The two stops would fall between Pittsburgh and Detroit on July 13th. Both towns follow MTTS’s usual plan of avoiding major interstates in lieu of finding more scenic, and fun routes along the way across the United States.
Lisbon, Ohio features a stop that MTTS veterans are accustomed to, generally called a “Surprise and Delight”, as it has a quirky site to visit:
[Gene] Krotky [Lisbon Historical Society] said the group is always looking for “offbeat” places to visit as part of its tour and was intrigued with Lisbon after learning a village resident held the patent for the paper drinking straw. “We have a box of the original straws. I was surprised anyone outside of town knew.”
Orrvile, Ohio, a little over an hour down the road is home to the Smucker’s Plant where a store and cafe are dedicated to the production of jams, jellies, preserves and other sweet treats.
We are unsure if the plans for the day will recommend both stops, or if time might suggest one visit over another. According to discussions with the Lisbon town council, they are going to restrict parking to allow space for MINI drivers, and they will pay for police coverage and some extra “facilities” as the trip passes through their town, similar to the Birthplace of JELL-O stop in LeRoy, NY back in 2014.
